Lust
The issue of lust is a very important issue, especially for most men sense their sexual drive is generally more physical in nature than it is emotional. In a culture where sex sales and where women are conditioned to view their bodies as "cuts of meat," it is no wonder that lust is all the more addictive here. The pornography industry in the United States generates around $10 billion dollars plus in prophets every year.
While it is easy to get caught up in our own physical appearance as well as in the physical appearance of others, we must understand that there is much more to who we are and who others are than just our physical characteristics.
If you struggle to overcome lust (especially because it bombards us in this society), then I would just suggest a few things. First, you cannot do it on your own, you will need the help of God daily to give you strength to overcome your temptations. Second, whenever you are tempted, spend some time in prayer and/or reading the Christian Bible. Finally, I would suggest asking several people whom you respect if they would be interested in being accountability partners with you. These people should also be of the same sex.
Here are a few Scriptures regarding lust: Galatians 5:16, 1 John 2:16,
Romans 13:14, 2 Timothy 2:22, 1 Peter 1:14, and 1 Peter 2:11. In all these
verses the term flesh is used as a synonym for sinful desires (it is not
saying that our bodies are evil).
