Body Piercing

You may be wondering what a bar code has to do with body piercing.  Well, a bar code is a mark that tags a product as a certain product.  In the same way, body piercing is a mark that tags you, if you will, as being a certain type of person.

Is it wrong to have body piercing?  Well, in one word, No! I do not believe that there is any Biblical stipulation that forbids body piercing as an art.  While we should take care of our bodies and love them, I do not think that body piercings usually put our bodies in danger.  I suppose that if a certain piercing would put your body in danger then that type of piercing should be avoided.

Some people may argue that it is sinful to pierce your body, but the only verse in Scripture that speaks closely to this issue is Leviticus 19:28 which talks about cutting (like with a knife) and tattooing your body as a part of a religious ceremony for a false religion.  In other words, the content of what was being done was forbidden, specifically because it dealt with showing devotion to a God other than the God of the Christian Bible.

I think that cutting yourself would be wrong regardless of the reason, because it is harmful, but again, body piercings do not seem to pose the same threat under normal circumstances.
